Beautiful, Straight Smiles For Life

smiles-imgMany individuals needs braces at some point in life. This can be for either cosmetic or functional reasons. The most obvious use of braces is to straighten crooked teeth and improve the appearance of your smile. However, there are also several more important reasons. Teeth that are crooked or misaligned are often harder to clean and therefore more likely to decay. Misaligned teeth can also wear down quicker and may also lead to pain in the head, neck, and face. Without braces, some patients may also experience jaw problems as a result of spacing or overcrowding.

Orthodontic procedures can be a significantly cheaper option than the additional care that may be required to treat the dental complications that arise from misaligned teeth. Crooked teeth can cause a host of oral health problems, including:

  • Misalignment of the jaw leading to abnormal wear of the teeth and TMJ
  • Tooth decay and worsening gum disease
  • Aesthetic issues

Orthodontic technology has improved in recent years and today’s braces are more comfortable and attractive than in the past. Patients can now receive braces made from metal, ceramic, or plastic in a variety of colors including transparent. Modern wires and brackets are also able to move crooked teeth faster and more comfortably than ever before.

Orthodontic treatment is a proven method of improving function and esthetics for patients of all ages. To learn more about braces in Tinton Falls, NJ, contact Dr. Bilow and schedule your consultation today!

Frequently Asked Questions

How can it be done in 6 months?
The Cosmetic 6 Month Braces® Technique utilizes the latest technology combined with time tested orthodontic techniques to move your teeth quickly and safely.

Does the Powerprox Six Month Braces® Technique use high forces to move the teeth?
No. Actually the Cosmetic 6 Month Braces® Technique is a low force technique. Many people think we just “tighten” the braces like crazy to get the teeth moving. This would actually slow down tooth movement. To reiterate, the Cosmetic 6 Month Braces® Technique is a low force technique.

Does the Cosmetic 6 Month Braces® Technique damage the teeth, roots, or gums in any way?
No, the causes for the above complications are individual biology and high forces over a long period of time. The Powerprox Six Month Braces® Technique uses low force with a short treatment duration to safely move the teeth.

Are Cosmetic 6 Month Braces® more painful than regular braces?
No, the Cosmetic 6 Month Braces® Technique uses low forces to move the teeth not high forces that can cause pain.

Do I need to wear braces on all my teeth?
Yes, we have both small metal and clear braces. The clear braces blend into your teeth making them nearly invisible. We can also use lingual braces which are placed behind your teeth so no one can see them.

Does the Cosmetic 6 Month Braces® Technique cost more than regular braces?
No, actually since there are fewer visits, the Powerprox Six Month Braces® Technique is less expensive than Dr. Bilow’s regular braces.

Do you ever extract teeth with the Cosmetic 6 Month Braces® Technique?
We very rarely extract teeth using the Powerprox Six Month Braces® Technique.

How often do I have to come in?
Usually every 4 weeks for a 15 to 30 minute appointment, and a little longer for the appointment when we put the braces on. Usually treatment is completed in 10 visits or less. Also, patients of this office are seen on time, so you will not be waiting long to be seated for your appointment.

Do I have to wear a retainer?
Yes, as with any orthodontic procedure a retainer is necessary. If you do not want to wear a retainer very long you can have your teeth splinted together.

Insurance / Payment Plans
There are great variations in insurance plans. We will be happy to check into your insurance for you. We have many convenient payment options available to make the Cosmetic 6 Month Braces® Technique affordable to you.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are a great option for those who want straight teeth and a beautiful smile without showing any braces. Lingual braces are placed behind the teeth so no one can see them, and yes, we can use lingual braces with the Powerprox Six Month Braces® Technique, so you can have the smile you always wanted both quickly and without anyone knowing you are wearing braces.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use lingual braces on both the upper and lower teeth?
Yes we can. Another common combination is upper lingual braces with lower clear braces.

Do lingual braces cost more than regular braces?
Yes. Since the lingual braces have to be custom made to fit your teeth and the lingual braces treatment requires special training for the doctor, lingual braces are generally more expensive than regular braces.

Are Lingual braces harder to adjust to than regular braces?
Both regular braces and lingual braces require an adjustment period. The difference is that lingual braces will affect the tongue, whereas regular braces affect the lips and cheeks. Also your speech may initially be affected with lingual braces. We use various comfort aids to help you through this adjustment period. This period usually lasts from 1 to 4 weeks.

Are the final results as good with lingual braces as they are with regular braces?
Yes. You will have straight teeth and a beautiful smile and no one will know you wore braces.

invisalign-imgFDA approved Invisalign® is the “invisible” way to straighten your teeth without wearing conventional metal braces. Invisalign® uses a series of clear, removable, custom-made aligners to move your teeth. Because you remove your aligners before you eat and drink, there are no food restrictions or problems with flossing or brushing. This technology is also more comfortable, avoiding the mouth abrasions that can be caused by the metal and wires of conventional braces. And this technology is also more convenient, since you are likely to spend less time in our office getting adjustments.

Invisalign® uses 3-D computer imaging technology to design the complete treatment plan, from the initial teeth positioning to the desired final positioning. This 3-D imaging allows you to preview the final positioning of your teeth before you start treatment. Custom-made aligners are created based on the imaging information. Each of these aligners moves your teeth incrementally and is worn for about 2 weeks. Typically, you will visit Dr. Bilow once every 6 weeks for “progress reports.” Not every situation can be treated with Invisalign, so call the office to get an evaluation to see if you can be helped with this new technology.

The Latest Technology Makes It Possible

Upon an initial examination, Dr. Bilow will decide if Invisalign® is right for you. He will write up a treatment plan and take an impression of your teeth, which is then submitted to Invisalign®. Using the latest advances in 3-D computer technology, Invisalign® translates Dr. Bilow’s instructions into a series of nearly undetectable aligners. You wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, moving your teeth gradually, week by week, millimeter by millimeter until you’ve achieved the desired result.

Frequently Asked Questions
